Global challenges

The agriculture we need

“Modern agriculture has altered the face of the planet more than any other human activity”, said UNCCD in connection with their report Global Land Outlook 2 (GLO2). The way we cultivate the land, not the least by using synthetic nitrogen fertilisers, threatens soil fertility. Agri PAC World has therefore spent years of innovative research on developing products for an eco-friendly agriculture that restores the soil.

Crucial for plants

Nitrogen is a crucial nutrient for plants to survive and grow. But since the 1910s, the agricultural market all over the world has used synthetic nitrogen fertilisers, like urea and ammonium nitrate. This has slowly but surely resulted in the global problem of nutrient poor soils which cannot produce enough healthy crops.

In April 2022 the UN came with a report including sharp warnings about chronic land degradation. The evidence-based report, called Global Land Outlook 2 (GLO2), is made by the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) and it concludes that ”as food prices soar amid rapid climate and other planetary changes, ’crisis footing’ is needed to conserve, restore and use land sustainably”.

Global food systems

When the report was released, Ibrahim Thiaw, Executive Secretary of the UNCCD said “Modern agriculture has altered the face of the planet more than any other human activity. We need to urgently rethink our global food systems, which are responsible for 80% of deforestation, 70% of freshwater use, and the single greatest cause of terrestrial biodiversity loss”.

In the last decades, scientists have discovered that the use of synthetic nitrogen fertilisers has contributed to these significant environmental challenges. They are inefficient and to compensate for that, they are used in excess. This excess is harmful to the environment and it raises the costs of cultivation, since more than 30% of the applied synthetic nitrogen isn’t absorbed by the plants but instead leaks out into the environment, polluting it.

Increasing awareness

All over the world, people are becoming more aware of how severe nitrogen pollution and depletion of organic matter in the soil are. Nitrate has contaminated aquifers in the US and some European countries, in India and China the soils are severely depleted of organic matter and the dead zones in our lakes and oceans are growing larger.

Tangible solutions

Consequently, many politicians, organisations and companies have begun introducing policies for agricultural sustainability. Yet, the current policies seem to have burdened farmers further, rather than providing tangible solutions.
In recent years we’ve seen how this has led to loud protests all over Europe and in India. This highlights the urgent need for finding environmentally friendly agriculture solutions that doesn’t burden farmers and consumers.

Innovative research

This is why Agri PAC World has spent years of extensive and innovative research to develop humates-bound nitrogen (green nitrogen*) products, for example Humegro Green Nitrogen™ and Humegro Fullspec™, as a sustainable alternative to synthetic fertilisers. These are bio-stimulants rich products with an unmatched effectiveness that can help farmers transition to a more efficient and eco-friendly agriculture.

*Our green nitrogen is making synthetic nitrogen organic by binding it to the humic acids (humates-bound).
